Why is the signature page important to the IEP? Because it shows the student who is all involved in their IEP. Let’s them know who they can go to if they need anything because they cared enough to go to their meeting. Not that being unable to go to an IEP is necessarily bad if you provide information to the team beforehand but it shows the student that you made an effort to be there for them. Finding someone to cover your class for a few minutes speaks volumes to a student who may already feel like they are not given a chance in school.
The way I like to show my students who is part of their team is by using the Venn Diagram app. By using this app they can see all who was involved in last years IEP and who all is involved in the current IEP. The ones who will always be in the middle and will always be involved are themselves and their parents.
